Get Started

New to Training?

Puppy younger than 16 weeks?

We recommend you get started in Manners 1: Puppy right away. Early training and socialization is the best way to help your pup develop into the perfect companion for your family. You should also consider participating in a Puppy Socialization session. If you are having issues that you’d like individual help with, a Private Session can be just the ticket as a supplement to your group puppy class. No evaluation is required for pups of this age to start their training.

Puppy/dog older than 16 weeks?

We love group classes! The dogs learn to be calm and focused on their person EVEN with strange dogs and people nearby. Many dogs are able to start off their training in one of our group classes. However, others will benefit from a private session to get prepared for the excitement of a group class. Your dog is probably ready to join a group if you can answer “yes” to the following questions:

  1. Will your dog be relatively calm (not barking, growling or hiding) in a room with strange dogs and people?
  2. Will you be able to get your dog’s attention and keep him under control with strange dogs and people nearby?

If you answered “yes” to both, go right ahead and book your Class Readiness Evaluation. This group session will confirm the best starting point.  If your answer is “no” to one or both of these questions, we’d like to first get you started with a private lesson. Sign-up for a Private Lesson and we’ll give you the tools and strategies you need. If you prefer the individual attention of private lessons, you’re welcome to work through any of our class offerings in that mode.

You can book any of these services online by clicking the appropriate link. Or feel free to email info@whatagreatdog.com or call 214-297-3000 for assistance.
